Jack Ponton
Jack Ponton, the Director of the Ecosse
process systems group, started working with
chemical
engineering applications of computers during his PhD project, which was
in mass transfer, back in 1965. He spent a postdoctoral year at
McMaster University in Canada where he worked with A I Johnson, a
pioneer of computer modelling of processes, and developed
DYNSYS, one of the first dynamic process simulation packages.
Personal research interests include: process synthesis, simulation
and control; process design and innovation; and the exploitation
of newly emerging software and communication techniques in
chemical engineering.
He holds a personal chair in Chemical Process Systems Engineering
and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
